A hyperbaric oxygen chamber is a pressure vessel, so the room it sits in matters as much as the chamber itself. This guide covers what TechFit checks before we confirm an installation: footprint, floor load, access, power, oxygen, air conditioning and safety. The numbers come from the Alteon chambers we supply; your final layout is confirmed against the specific model you choose.
Hard shell or soft shell: it changes the room
Soft shell chambers are lighter and work at lower pressure. Hard shell chambers are rigid steel or aluminium cabins that hold higher pressure, weigh hundreds of kilograms and come with an equipment cabinet and air conditioning unit. Most commercial wellness centres in India now choose hard shell cabins; see our guide to 1.5 ATA vs 2.0 ATA for the pressure question.
Footprint: plan for every part, not just the cabin
- Lying chamber: the Alteon AL3V36 is 900 x 2200 mm, weighs about 450 kg and Alteon recommends a room of roughly 60 to 80 sq ft.
- One seat hard shell: the main chamber is about 1650 x 1450 x 1660 mm, with a separate equipment cabinet of about 730 x 700 x 1440 mm and an air conditioning unit.
- Two seat hard shell: the main cabin is about 2300 x 1650 x 1750 mm and weighs about 1000 kg, plus the apparatus cabinet and air conditioning unit.
- Medical multiplace systems: modular platforms seat 1 to 21 people and need a purpose built room; these are planned with the hospital's engineering team.
Leave clear space in front of the door for the guest to enter and for staff to assist, and room behind the cabinets for service access.
Floor load and access route
Ground floor rooms are simplest. On an upper floor, ask a structural engineer to confirm the slab can carry the cabin weight. Before dispatch we measure every door, lift and turn on the delivery route against the cabin size; crane or manual shifting is arranged where needed.
Power
Hard shell wellness chambers run on a single phase supply. Give the chamber and its external units a dedicated, stabilised line with a suitable voltage stabiliser, so pressure control and air conditioning are not affected by other equipment in the building.
Oxygen supply
Wellness chambers use an integrated oxygen concentrator rather than cylinders. The AL3V36 uses a 15 L concentrator and the seated HealO2 class cabins deliver about 93 percent oxygen through a breathing system, which keeps running costs and logistics simple.
Air conditioning and the room environment
The room should be air conditioned and out of direct sun, especially where the cabin has acrylic viewing ports. Keep oxygen safe housekeeping: no open flame, no oil based products inside the cabin, and a clear policy on what guests can take in with them.
Medical certification, if you need it
For hospitals and clinical use, check the chamber's certifications. The Alteon Aero Pulse chambers, for example, list ASME U Stamp, PVHO-1, NFPA-99, US FDA 510(k) clearance and CE MDD. Clinical hyperbaric treatment should always be supervised by qualified medical staff.
What TechFit does before installation
Send us the room drawing or photographs and the delivery route. We return a layout for the chamber you choose, confirm power and weight with the proforma invoice, then deliver, install, commission and train your staff. See the Alteon hyperbaric oxygen chambers we supply, or the Matrix Wellness case study, where an Alteon HBOT runs alongside 13 other machines.
