IHHT stands for intermittent hypoxic-hyperoxic training. The client breathes through a mask while a machine alternates between air with less oxygen than normal (hypoxic, like high altitude) and air with more oxygen than normal (hyperoxic), in timed cycles.
How the machines work
An IHHT unit separates and mixes oxygen to deliver precise concentrations while monitoring the client. The Alteon IHHT Cell Trainers cover an oxygen range of 9 to 34 percent, simulate altitudes up to 6,500 m and run training cycles from 1 to 30 minutes. Model B reaches 9 percent hypoxic and 34 percent hyperoxic air.
Where it is used
Longevity clinics, sports recovery centres and performance studios use IHHT as a seated, low effort session that fits alongside other recovery services. It runs on a standard supply (about 800 W) and needs only a chair or bed and a quiet corner.
Safety
Clients should be screened before IHHT, and sessions are monitored. Anyone with a medical condition should consult a doctor first.
